What Backuptrans is for
Backuptrans sells a family of WhatsApp tools, split by direction: iPhone only, Android only, iPhone to Android, Android to iPhone, a Plus edition that does all of them, and a separate WhatsApp Business edition. The iPhone WhatsApp Transfer for Mac backs up and restores WhatsApp between iPhones, extracts photos, videos and audio attachments to the Mac, exports messages to TXT, CSV, DOC, HTML or PDF, and prints conversations.
Where Backuptrans is stronger
- Format choice. Five formats including Word. Chatcove has four and no Word export.
- Phone transfer. It can move WhatsApp between iPhones, and its other editions handle Android. Chatcove never writes to a phone.
- Windows and older Macs. There is a Windows version, and its stated Mac range reaches back to OS X 10.7. Chatcove needs an Apple Silicon Mac.
- Devices. 3 phones on the Personal Edition, 8 on Family.
Where Chatcove is stronger
- Price. $9 once against $24.95 once. Both are one-time; ours is cheaper.
- The newest macOS. Chatcove runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 12 Monterey or later, up to the current macOS that new Macs ship with. Backuptrans's Mac page lists macOS 12 Monterey as its newest supported version, so if you are on a current Mac, check it runs on yours first. The reverse is also true: on macOS 11 or earlier, or on an Intel Mac, Chatcove will not work and Backuptrans may.
- See everything before you pay. Back up and read your whole history with media in place, free, plus 3 trial exports of one chat each.

- Right-to-left text renders correctly in the app and in the exports.

On Backuptrans's own buy page on 8 October 2026, iPhone WhatsApp Transfer for Mac was $24.95 for the Personal Edition (3 devices, lifetime), $34.95 for the Family Edition (8 devices, lifetime) and $154.95 a year for the Business Edition. The Android iPhone WhatsApp Transfer Plus edition for Mac, which also handles Android, starts at $34.95.
Does Backuptrans work on the latest macOS?
Its Mac product page lists the requirement as "macOS X 10.7 - macOS 12 Monterey" on 8 October 2026. That may simply be a page that has not been updated, but it is worth confirming with the free download on your own Mac before paying.
Which formats does each export?
Backuptrans lists TXT, CSV, Word (DOC), HTML and PDF, which is the widest list in the category. Chatcove exports HTML, PDF, TXT and CSV, with photos, videos and voice notes in the HTML and PDF. If you need a Word file specifically, Backuptrans has it and we do not.
