Chatcove vs Dr.Fone WhatsApp Transfer

Dr.Fone moves WhatsApp between phones. Chatcove turns your WhatsApp history into files you can read and keep on your Mac. They overlap less than the search results suggest, so here is which one fits which job.

We make Chatcove, so read this with that in mind. Everything said about Dr.Fone below comes from Wondershare's own pages, linked at the bottom, and we have tried to be as fair to it as we would want it to be to us.

What Dr.Fone WhatsApp Transfer is for

Wondershare's Dr.Fone is a large toolkit for phones, and WhatsApp Transfer is one module of it, also sold on its own. Its Mac pricing page describes transferring WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business between iOS and Android, backing up and restoring LINE, Kik, Viber and WeChat, and viewing, previewing and exporting chat history to the Mac.

The centre of gravity is moving a chat history from one phone to another. Export to the computer is part of the package, not the point of it.

Where Dr.Fone is stronger

  • Phone-to-phone transfer, across iPhone and Android. If you are switching to Android, this is the job Dr.Fone is built for and Chatcove does not do at all.
  • WhatsApp Business. Dr.Fone lists it. Chatcove reads the regular WhatsApp app only.
  • Other chat apps. LINE, Kik, Viber and WeChat backup are on the same licence.
  • Windows. There is a Windows edition. Chatcove is Mac only, Apple Silicon only, and needs macOS 12 or later.
  • More phones per licence. Up to 5 phones on 2 Macs. Chatcove's licence counts Macs (2 of them), not phones.

Where Chatcove is stronger

  • Price. $9 once, against $39.95 once or $29.95 every year. The cheapest Dr.Fone option that keeps working after twelve months costs more than four Chatcove licences.
  • Readable files are the whole product. HTML that keeps the conversation layout with photos, videos and playable voice notes in place, PDF for printing and filing, TXT, and CSV for spreadsheets. See WhatsApp chat to PDF and WhatsApp chat to Excel.
  • You can read everything before paying. The backup, the chat list and every conversation are free to open. The trial includes 3 exports of one chat each.
  • No account and no server for your chats. The backup, reading and exporting all work with the network off. The only automatic network calls are an update check and a licence check, neither carrying chat content.
  • Right-to-left languages render correctly in the app and in the exported files.

Which should you choose?

  • Moving WhatsApp to a new phone, especially to Android: Dr.Fone, or WhatsApp's own transfer.
  • WhatsApp Business, Windows or an Intel Mac: Dr.Fone.
  • Keeping a readable, printable copy of your history on an Apple Silicon Mac: Chatcove. And if you are changing phones, do both: move the account with a transfer tool, and keep an export that does not depend on any app to open.

Try both before you pay either

  1. Download Chatcove, let it make the encrypted backup, and read your history. It costs nothing and needs no account.
  2. Download Dr.Fone's free version and check which formats it exports for your chats.
  3. Pay for the one whose output you want. Look at the cart total rather than the headline price, whichever you choose.

Common questions

How much does Dr.Fone WhatsApp Transfer cost on a Mac?

On Wondershare's own Mac pricing page on 8 October 2026: $23.95 a month, $29.95 a year, or $39.95 as a one-time perpetual licence, each covering 2 Macs and 1 to 5 phones. The page shows higher "reference" prices beside them. The Full Toolkit bundle, which includes WhatsApp Transfer among other tools, is $99.95 a year or $115.95 once.

Can Dr.Fone move WhatsApp from an iPhone to an Android phone?

Yes. Phone-to-phone WhatsApp transfer, including between iPhone and Android, is the main thing Dr.Fone WhatsApp Transfer sells, and it lists WhatsApp Business too. Chatcove cannot do this: it gives you a readable copy of your history on your Mac and never writes anything back to a phone.

Which one exports WhatsApp to PDF?

Chatcove exports to PDF, HTML, TXT and CSV with photos, videos and voice notes. Dr.Fone's Mac store page says you can view, preview and export chat history to your Mac, but does not name the file formats, so check them in its free download before paying.

Is Chatcove a full replacement for Dr.Fone?

Only if all you want is to read and export your WhatsApp history on an Apple Silicon Mac. Dr.Fone is a suite: transfer between phones, WhatsApp Business, backup of other chat apps, and Windows support. If you need any of that, Dr.Fone is the better tool.
