Terms of Service

Chatcove is made and sold by Codama Advanced Engineering, Inc., a Delaware C-Corporation with its registered office at 8 The Green, Ste A, Dover, DE 19901, USA. In these terms, we and us mean that company, and you means the person or organisation using Chatcove.

By downloading, installing or using Chatcove, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the app.

What Chatcove does

Chatcove is a macOS app that reads an encrypted backup of your own iPhone on your own Mac, lets you browse your WhatsApp history, and exports it to HTML, PDF, TXT or CSV. It runs locally. It does not connect to WhatsApp's servers, and it does not send your messages anywhere. How we handle data is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.

Your licence

When you buy Chatcove we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app. The licence is perpetual: it is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it does not expire.

• Two Macs. One licence covers use on up to 2 Macs at a time. You can free a slot by removing the licence from a Mac you no longer use.
• Yours to keep. We will not switch off a licence you paid for, and we will not convert it into a subscription later.
• Personal to you. Do not resell, sublicense, rent or publish your licence key, and do not share it outside the 2 Macs it covers.

We own Chatcove. Buying a licence buys you the right to use the app, not ownership of it. The files you export are yours entirely and we claim nothing in them.

Updates

Updates to the version you bought are free. We have not promised free upgrades to every future major version, and we are not going to pretend otherwise here. If a future major version is ever a paid upgrade, we will say so plainly before you pay for it, and your existing licence will keep working on the version it covers.

The free trial

You can install Chatcove, back up your iPhone, and read, search and browse your entire WhatsApp history with all its media, without paying anything and without a time limit.

The trial also lets you export, so you can check the output on your own data before you buy. Trial exports are capped: one chat per export, three exports in total, each carrying a short watermark line. Buying removes the cap and the watermark. We may change these trial limits for future versions.

What you need to run it

Chatcove requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 11 Big Sur or later. Intel Macs are not supported. This is stated before checkout, and it is your responsibility to check it before buying. If you buy anyway and it will not run, the refund below covers you.

Price, payment and tax

Chatcove costs $9 USD as a one-time payment. Payments are processed by Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record for the sale. That means Stripe takes the payment, issues the receipt, and calculates, collects and remits any VAT, GST or sales tax that applies where you are. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us.

Refunds

There is a 30-day money-back guarantee. If Chatcove is not what you wanted, email hello@chatcove.app within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund you. You do not have to justify the request. We may deactivate the licence key once a refund is issued.

Acceptable use

Chatcove is a tool for getting at your own data. Use it that way.

• Only use Chatcove on a device and a backup you own, or that you have clear permission to access.
• Do not use Chatcove to access, monitor or extract another person's messages without their knowledge and consent.
• Do not use Chatcove for anything unlawful, or in breach of the rules of any service or the privacy rights of anyone in your conversations.
• Do not attempt to bypass the licence check, or to copy, modify or reverse engineer the app, except where the law expressly gives you that right regardless of what these terms say.

You are responsible for how you use what you export. Exported chats often contain other people's personal data, and passing them on can carry legal obligations that are yours, not ours.

Not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta

No warranty

Chatcove is provided as is. We work hard to make it correct and we would rather hear about a bug than not, but we cannot guarantee that the app will be free of errors, that it will work with every iPhone, iOS version or backup, or that an export will be complete or suitable for any particular purpose, including use as evidence. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

Keep your own backups. Chatcove reads your data and never writes back to your phone, but no software is a substitute for having a copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, lost profits or lost opportunity, arising out of your use of Chatcove. Our total liability to you for any claim connected with Chatcove is limited to the amount you paid us for it.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Ending the licence

You can stop using Chatcove at any time and delete it. We may end your licence if you materially breach these terms, for example by sharing or reselling your key, or if a payment is reversed. We will contact you first where it is practical to do so.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top always shows the current version. Changes apply from the day they are published, and they never remove a right you already earned, such as a refund window that is still open on a purchase you have already made.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The courts of Delaware have jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live.
